The Grand Beach on the north side of the island, formerly the Renaissance Grand Beach, is one of St. Thomas's most beautiful, attracting mainly families and couples. It opens onto Smith Bay and is near Coral World. Many watersports are available here. The beach is right off Route 38. The former hotel has been purchased by Jimmy Buffet and is being turned into a Margaritaville time share resort. The beach is on Water Bay, also know as Pineapple Bay and Renaissance Beach. These days it is very quiet due to the resort being closed though there may be some construction going on with the new timeshares going in. There is a restaurant located at the Point Pleasant property next door.
